Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials recovered 11 packages of contraband valued at ₹11 lakh at the Hubballi Railway Station on Saturday.

A RPF team conducting a contraband check at the platform of the railway station noticed an unclaimed bag lying near the subway.

On inspection, the bag was found to contain 10 packages wrapped in brown adhesive tape, suspected to be ganja.

Following due legal procedure, the 10 packages of ganja, weighing approximately 11 kg and valued at ₹11 lakh, were handed over to the Inspector of Excise, DC Squad, Dharwad, for further action.

Subsequently, after completing all formalities, the Inspector of Excise registered a case under Sections 20(b), 20(b)(ii)(B), 25, and 8(c) of the NDPS Act.

The team included Abhishek Reddy, M.G. Nayak, M.L. Gopal, C.V. Bangari, S.M. Rafi, S.S. Kakani, H.M. Chavan and a canine called Alex.

Valuables returned

RPF officials found an unclaimed bag in Bhatkal station recently and took it to the Station Master, where an inventory was made. The bag was then kept at the RPF office.

Subsequently, a passenger came to claim the bag. The passenger stated that the bag contained items worth a total of ₹18,000.

Upon checking the contents, the passenger’s description was found to be correct.

The officials, after a thorough verification and completing the necessary paperwork, handed over the bag to the passenger. The passenger expressed gratitude to the RPF Bhatkal for this, said a press release.
