In a startling development, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), the specialised police unit that investigates financial crimes, has arrested a notorious fraudster accused of orchestrating a massive scam spanning 10 states. According to officials, the accused lured unsuspecting victims with false promises and siphoned off huge sums of money before going underground.
Gurjant Singh Gill, the director of Pearls Agrotech Corporation Limited (PACL), has been arrested for his involvement in a Rs 49,000 crore scam. He was caught in Mohali, Punjab.
Pearls Agrotech Corporation Limited, registered in October 2011 in Rajasthan, had its corporate office on Barakhamba Road, New Delhi. Gill, along with his associates and directors, established branches in Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar and Chhattisgarh. The company operated as a non-banking financial entity.
The scam involved defrauding investors in the name of providing plots in Mahoba, Sultanpur, Farrukhabad and Jalaun districts of Uttar Pradesh. The company swindled Rs 49,000 crore from investors across 10 states, leading to multiple cases being filed against PACL in various districts, including Jalaun in Uttar Pradesh. Gill’s arrest is linked to the case registered in Jalaun.
