Calangute: To prevent recurrent flooding at Guirim and the surrounding areas, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik said that state govt has sanctioned Rs 49 crore for two projects— first, the dredging of the Tar river and construction of a concrete embankment on its sides, and second, raising the road level in the low-lying areas that get flooded. The roads in Guirim and in Sangolda have been getting flooded for many years, but nothing has been done, Naik said. “Guirim-Bastora is a low-lying area and when the level of the Tar river rises, all these areas are flooded. We have done a drone survey to identify the areas where the water level rises. The work has already started on the Tar river; whatever can be done during the monsoon will be done. The concreting work will start after the monsoon,” he said.

While the Tar work is being done at a cost of Rs 42 crore, the PWD is preparing a Rs 7 crore tender to raise the height of the roads passing through the low-lying areas, he said. “The pre-tendering process is going on and the work will start after the monsoon. Both the projects will be launched formally next week,” Naik said.
