Hosable listed three reasons for a 'demographic imbalance' in India - infiltration, religious conversion, and a higher rate of growth in some communities.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary Dattatreya Hosable on Saturday urged the Centre to quickly plan a population policy to rectify “demographic imbalance", months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a high-level mission in this regard during his Independence Day speech.

“The government has mentioned this on an open platform and also in Parliament. Woh population policy jitni jaldi hogi, utna uska laabh hai (the sooner a population policy is made, the better it will be)," Hosable was quoted as saying by The Indian Express at the Sangh’s all-India executive body meeting in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur.

Hosable listed three reasons for this ‘demographic imbalance’ – infiltration, conversion, and a higher rate of growth in some communities. He emphasised that while there are laws to prevent forced religious conversion, attempts have to be made on a social basis.

The senior RSS leader flagged religious conversion in the name of service as a matter of concern, adding that organisations such as Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and Vishva Hindu Parishad were working to prevent it. He also called for curtailing live-in relationships through legislation and social consciousness.

“Infiltration and conversion should be stopped. People say when demographic imbalance is mentioned that it is a communal thought. But think how demographic imbalance will impact national security. Think whether those who say such things are saying it in national interest or only on a communal basis," he added.

PM Modi Had Flagged Demographic Changes

The RSS has long been flagging the issue of demographic changes, particularly due to what it claims is illegal migration from Bangladesh. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had earlier said people should have three children so that the population stays at the replacement level.

In his Independence Day speech to the nation, PM Modi had said that the demography of the country is being altered as part of a “deliberate conspiracy" and accused “infiltrators" of targeting Indians and snatching their livelihoods.

“The nation will not endure this. When demographic change occurs, particularly in border areas, it creates a crisis for national security. It threatens the unity, integrity, and progress of the country. It sows the seeds of social tension," he said. “Therefore, today from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I announce that we have decided to launch a High-Power Demography Mission. Through this mission, the severe crisis now looming over Bharat will be addressed in a deliberate and time-bound manner."

Hosabale Lashes Out At TMC Govt

Meanwhile, Hosabale targeted the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of spreading instability and violence.

“The situation there is serious. In the previous meeting, a resolution on Bengal was passed. The Sangh’s work is expanding in the state, but hatred and animosity spread after the last elections due to the political leadership and the chief minister," he said.

He also lamented the TMC government for failing to stop illegal migration from Bangladesh. “If the political leadership fails to end this menace, it would be unjust to keep Bengal, once a guiding state for India, in an atmosphere of instability and violence."
