In a move that is expected to enthuse rubber farmers in central Kerala and settler farming communities up north ahead of the local body elections, the State Cabinet on Wednesday increased the support price of rubber provided to farmers from ₹180 to ₹200 per kg. The revised prices will come into effect from November 1, the Kerala Piravi Day.

The rubber subsidy was revised last in 2024, when the government increased it from ₹170 to ₹180 after a gap of three years.

During a period which has witnessed a shortage in global production and rise in demand in the domestic market, the increase in subsidy could lead to a step up in production, surpassing the levels witnessed last year. Kerala accounts for over 80% of the total production in the country.
