Rush continues at jewellery stores across the state on Sunday

Many are buying for the wedding season or making purchases now expecting prices to rise further

Bhubaneswar: Shoppers continued to flock to jewellery stores for the second day on Sunday to purchase gold, silver and other precious metals linked to Dhanteras.Many buyers bought jewels for the upcoming wedding season, while others were keen to make their purchases now rather than later, expecting further rise in prices.Mitesh Khimji, managing director of a leading jewellery company, said many people thronged jewellery stores on Sunday. “There was rush at jewellery showrooms across the state, especially in western Odisha, Angul district and the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack,” he added.Khimji said they expect people will continue to purchases on Monday too. “Many people buy gold on Diwali too, so we expect a good footfall.

We can comfortably say that Sunday’s footfall at store surpassed Saturday’s,” he added.Purnima Sahu, managing partner of a jewellery company, said people celebrated ‘Chhoti Diwali’ and Dhanteras on Sunday and considered it auspicious to purchase gold and silver. “We are getting a good response from customers. As there is uncertainty in the international markets, people are investing in gold and silver,” she added.

Mitali Mohanty, an IT professional staying in Chandrasekharpur area here, said she purchased gold and silver as an investment. “These two precious metals have given good returns in the last decade. I purchased both on Dhanteras in 2023 and 2024 too. I got handsome returns from the previous gold purchases. That’s why I bought again this year,” she added.Pramod Dehury, a resident of Patia, said he purchased gold and silver ornaments for his son’s marriage on Nov 7. “My son purchased a gold necklace and rings along with silver jewellery for his bride. Though it is costly compared to last year, we didn’t have an option,” he added.Apart from physical purchases, people also continued to buy digital gold online.
