The Sadashiva Nagar police in Bengaluru have tracked down a sales executive for allegedly making threats and abusive calls to Karnataka’s IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge for demanding a ban on activities of the RSS.
Based on a complaint, a police team tracked down the accused, Dhanappa, 40, who works for an FMCG company, to his hometown — Solapur in Maharashtra — through his call record details.
The police have brought him to Bengaluru and have taken him into custody to ascertain the reason for making the calls, and how he got the contact number of Mr. Priyank Kharge. The police are also examining the possibility of the involvement of others in the case.
Mr. Kharge had shared a video on social media where the accused called him, hurled abuses and threats on his demand for a ban on activities of the RSS.
Earlier, Mr. Kharge had written to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking a ban on activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in government schools, colleges and public institutions, which took a political turn with opposition BJP criticising him.
Supporters of Mr. Priyank Kharge protested across Karnataka demanding action against those threatening the Minister.
