May War Rest in Peace’ faces a delay? Film not yet sent to CBFC - Report

Salman Khan’s latest project, 'Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace,' is navigating choppy waters ahead of its debut. Initially branded as 'Maatrubhumi: Battle of Galwan,' the film faced a delay due to considerable public dissent regarding its trailer and recommendations from government officials to eliminate any mention of China and the Galwan Valley.

Salman Khan’s latest film, ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace’, had earlier created a lot of buzz amongst the masses. However, the film seems to be facing a lot of trouble as of late.

From changes to its official name to protests from Chinese-affiliated media, Khan’s return to the big screen has been marred by several challenges.

‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace’ faces major issues and delays ahead of release

Originally, the film was slated to be released in April; however, due to a number of issues, it was postponed. On the one hand, while the new date has not yet been announced, on the other hand, there are a lot of other troubling matters that Salman Khan’s film seems to be facing. As per Mid Day reports, the film has not even been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification yet, further revealing that there may be a lot of issues going on behind the scenes. Another statement from the report read, “At this stage, after making the necessary changes, the team is trying to understand what would be the next steps to ensure its smooth release. No department, whether the Ministry of Defence, the Army, or the CBFC, has seen the film yet.

After the release of the first trailer, the movie met with a lot of backlash. The Indian government at the time also informally gave advice to the filmmakers to remove any and all references and mentions to China and the Galwan conflict. As per the report, this also prompted the name change. Earlier, the film’s title was ‘Maatrubhumi: Battle of Galwan’; however, on March 16, it was reported that the film would be released under the new title - ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace.

The report also clarified that while the film’s creators were advised to remove certain scenes from it, it has not been rewritten. “Maatrubhumi has not been rewritten from scratch or reshot. In the Mumbai leg, the team shot additional parts depicting family sequences and love stories of a few supporting characters. Now, the makers have shifted the film's focus to family and relationships, making it a human drama.

That said, a bit of the war portions have been retained.

But if you remove references to China and Galwan, what is the conflict about? That's the central question they're grappling with,” the statement read. As of right now, no formal date for the release of the film has been shared with the public. However, it is expected to hit theatres sometime around August.
