‘Sanitary workers in Coimbatore district are highest paid in TN’

COIMBATORE: Sanitary workers in Coimbatore district are the highest paid in the state, according to Tamil Nadu Cleanliness Workers’ Welfare Board (TNCWWB) chairman Thippampatti V Aarusami.Aarusami chaired a review meeting at the district collectorate on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by workers from both rural and corporation limits, including contract workers.During the meeting, the chairman distributed monetary benefits to the sanitary workers. He noted that Rs 4.3 crore had been distributed in the state through the welfare board.While addressing reporters after the event, Aarusami emphasised the need for a weekly redressal meeting.He said, "Unlike any other districts, Coimbatore has distributed welfare cards to more than 4,000 people. Also, it has been requested to the district collector to have discussions with the department concerned to conduct a redressal meeting to the sanitary workers at least once a month."Answering a question on providing permission for the reporting time in the early morning, he said, "On behalf of the workers, I will be requesting the authorities to extend reporting time by at least 30 minutes. Those depending on public transport for work can be given permission."
