Dhanbad: Former Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh on Sunday broke his long silence and publicly shared what he described as the deepest sorrow of his life — being named an accused in the murder case of his cousin, Neeraj Singh, who was the former deputy mayor of Dhanbad.Speaking to the media for the first time after his release from jail, Sanjeev said, “The biggest pain of my life has been that my name was linked to the murder of my brother Neeraj. We grew up together, played together in our childhood, and were always close. It was beyond my imagination that my name would ever come up in such a tragic incident.”Sanjeev described Neeraj’s murder as an extremely unfortunate and distressing event.
“I myself demanded a CBI inquiry into the case so that the truth could come out,” he said.Sanjeev, who was jailed in 2017, said during his imprisonment in 2019, he sent a message through his wife Ragini Singh, the current Jharia MLA, urging her to stay connected with the public and understand their issues. “Even after losing the election, Ragini continued to work among the people. Our family’s political tradition has never been just about contesting elections.
It has always been about social service and helping people,” he said.Speaking about his health, the former MLA mentioned that he would decide his political future only after recovering fully. “Staying in politics itself is a big thing. I have endured a lot in life, but I believe that one day, the truth will prevail,” he said.Sanjeev expressed that being accused of his brother’s murder shattered him emotionally. “Such an allegation in our family broke me completely.
To this day, I fail to understand why this charge was brought against me,” he said.He further said he approached the court in 2019, seeking a CBI probe into the case, which remained pending in the high court for nearly two years. “In 2023, the court sought a reply from the state govt, but the govt responded saying there was no need for a CBI investigation,” Sanjeev informed. On August 27, the lower court of Dhanbad declared Sanjeev innocent in the murder case, ordering his release after nearly eight years of imprisonment. Earlier, the Supreme Court also granted him bail, paving the way for his release.
