Premier League legend Michael Owen's recent India visit led to a memorable meeting with Indian cricket star Sanju Samson, who is a devoted Liverpool fan. During an exclusive chat with JioStar, Samson shared his childhood memories of watching Owen play and discussed India's vibrant football culture, while expressing excitement about their meeting. The Kerala-based wicketkeeper-batter opened up about his family's connection to Owen's legacy. "I was telling him how passionately we used to watch him play. My father is a big fan of him," Samson told JioStar. He fondly recalled how his father would remind him about Owen's matches, saying "Okay, tonight at 9:00 p.m. Michael Owen is playing, do you want to watch him?"Samson emphasised that football's popularity in India is often underestimated. He pointed to his own experience with Malappuram FC, where he witnessed a packed stadium of 30,000 fans. This, he believes, demonstrates the huge untapped potential for football in India. The cricket star extended a warm invitation to Owen to visit Kochi, promising to treat him to traditional Kerala cuisine.
