Sarpanch to Minister: Vakati Srihari’s profile

Vakati Srihari started his political journey as a Congress worker in 1995 and worked as the Makthal Congress mandal secretary from 1996 to 2001. He was later elected as the Sarpanch of Makthal Major Gram Panchayat in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district in 2001.

Elected with the second-highest majority as a ZPTC from Makthal in 2014, he worked as the ZP Floor Leader of the Congress. He held several party positions after that, including General Secretary of Mahabubnagar and DCC president, Narayanpet.

He won the Makthal constituency with a majority of 17,525 votes in 2023 against his rival Chittem Rammohan Reddy of BRS. His wife Lalitha was an MPTC from Dasarapally, and his brother and other family members are also into local politics.

Mr. Srihari had contested various elections, including Gram Panchayat, Municipality, PACS, MPTC, and ZPTC, since 2015, apart from Assembly and Parliament.

He was born to Vakati Narsimulu, a contractor, and Vakati Ramulamma, a retired staff nurse in Makthal of Narayanpet district in 1972. He is from the BC (D) (Mudiraj community). He got his Bachelor of Arts (BA).
