Amavasya, which falls in the month of Ashwina, coincides with Pitru Paksha, which is regarded as a crucial time when ancestors visit their home in the hopes of being praised by their family members and bless them with the desired wish fulfillment. Before going back to their Pitru Loka, those who worship them for 15 days are blessed with pleasure, prosperity, and good health, but those who do not even remember them are cursed by their Pitru.

Every year, on Sarva Pitru Amavasya, Pitru leave the earth and return to their Loka.The Garuda Purana states that Shradh Paksha, the period when ancestors come to earth, is particularly significant in Hinduism.
