Hours after being arrested by Patna Police in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj worker Dularchand Yadav, JD(U)’s Mokama candidate and former MLA Anant Singh shared a defiant message on social media, expressing faith in his supporters and hinting that his arrest was politically motivated.

In a video posted on Facebook showing himself being escorted by the police, Singh wrote: “Satyamev Jayate!! I have complete faith in the people of Mokama!! Therefore, the people of Mokama will now contest the elections.”

Early Sunday, a police team led by Patna SSP arrested Singh from his Barh residence. The arrest came amid investigations into the murder of Dularchand Yadav, who was shot dead on Thursday following a clash between his group and Singh’s sympathisers in Mokama. Singh was subsequently brought to Patna for interrogation.

Along with Singh, two others — Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram — were also taken into custody for their alleged presence during the incident. All three are expected to be produced before a magistrate soon.

Reacting to the arrest, Singh’s lawyer Naveen Kumar alleged political conspiracy behind the move. “Their only motive is to influence the vote, and there's no other intention. Dularchand's death was very tragic — we express our condolences — but he (Singh) was unnecessarily targeted. The issue is related to the election, and the opposition is behind this,” Kumar said.

He added that Singh would be presented before a judge and that the legal team would contest the charges in court.

The arrest of Anant Singh, a controversial strongman with a long history in Bihar politics, has sent ripples through the Mokama constituency, where he remains a dominant figure. His arrest, coming just days before polling, is likely to have a significant political impact in the region.
