Members of the Savita Samaj staged a protest in Kalaburagi on October 30 condemning alleged derogatory remarks by BJP MLC C.T. Ravi against the Savita community in Karnataka.
Protesters led by Savita Samaj district president Anand Warik accused Mr. Ravi of using a prohibited and offensive term while referring to their community, and demanded that he publicly apologise for his remarks. They said the language used by the BJP leader had deeply hurt the sentiments of the community, which has been contributing to social and economic development of society in Karnataka.
The protestors urged the government of Karnataka to take strict action against those who insult any community, and called for the passage of a resolution during the upcoming winter session of the Karnataka legislature to ensure stringent punishment for such offences.
Demonstrators carried placards and raised slogans against Mr. Ravi during the protest. Some protestors also displayed posters showing a scissor cutting off Mr. Ravi’s tongue, symbolising their outrage against his alleged remarks.
