Every woman has both — a soft, nurturing side and a fierce, protective one

Actress Sayantani Ghosh is ready to step into a powerful new avatar as Maya Deshmukh in the upcoming show Jagadhatri. The actress says the show’s progressive storytelling and its focus on strong female characters are what truly drew her in.“In television, we often see the same kind of storytelling — but Jagadhatri is different,” she says. “It’s progressive and relevant, with the right mix of ingredients led by strong women characters like Maya. It explores complex relationships and emotions, and we’re all just hoping to connect with viewers because we genuinely believe this story has what it takes to strike that chord.”Talking about her character, Sayantani shares, “Maya Deshmukh is a woman of many shades.

She’s a business tycoon — strong and fearless on the outside — but she also has a tender, emotional core. She’s a mother, a protector, and a professional, constantly balancing her personal and professional life. She’s not just positive or negative — she’s real. I think that’s why the makers wanted someone who could justify her complexity.

The actress says she prepared extensively for the role through readings and workshops.

“Since my mother had watched the Bengali version, she told me all about it. I watched a few episodes too, just to get a sense of it. But after a while, you start living the character. The line between the real and reel begins to blur.”Sayantani also shares her admiration for producer Rahul Kumar Tewary, with whom she’s worked before. “Rahul is a friend, and working with him is always a happy experience. He’s doing some amazing work in the industry, and there’s always a positive, stress-free atmosphere on his sets.

Plus, we share a Kolkata connection, so it feels like family.”Excited for audiences to meet Maya, Sayantani concludes, “I genuinely believe every woman has both sides — the soft, nurturing self and the fierce, protective one that comes alive when needed. Jagadhatri beautifully captures that balance. The promos have been received so well already, and I can’t wait for viewers to see this journey unfold.”
