Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is set to revisit financial sagas with 'Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga,' slated for a late May 2026 shoot and an early 2027 premiere on SonyLIV. This new installment will chronicle Subrata Roy's dramatic rise and fall, drawing from Tamal Bandyopadhyay's book. Mehta also has 'Family Business' and a Gandhi biopic in development.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is set to return to the world of financial dramas with the third instalment of his acclaimed franchise, Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga. After the success of the earlier seasons, the upcoming chapter is now moving closer to production.
According to an reports, the series is expected to begin filming toward the end of May 2026.
The makers are targeting an early 2027 premiere on SonyLIV, where the previous seasons of the franchise have also been released.
Story of Subrata Roy’s rise and fall
Accoridng to OTTPlay, titled 'Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga,' the new season will chronicle the dramatic rise and eventual downfall of businessman Subrata Roy. Hansal Mehta returns to the director’s chair after delivering the hugely successful first instalment, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, which featured Pratik Gandhi in a breakthrough role. The second chapter, Scam 2003: The Telgi Story, directed by Tushar Hiranandani, explored the stamp paper scam involving Abdul Karim Telgi.The report also states the upcoming season draws inspiration from journalist Tamal Bandyopadhyay’s 2014 book, "Sahara: The Untold Story." The narrative is expected to delve into the creation of Roy’s vast business empire and the prolonged legal battles that followed, examining complex themes of finance, governance and public perception.
Hansal Mehta’s upcoming projects
Apart from 'Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga,' Hansal Mehta has several projects in the pipeline across films and streaming platforms. The director was last in the spotlight for The Buckingham Murders starring Kareena Kapoor Khan. He is also preparing for a new Netflix financial drama titled ‘Family Business,’ which will feature Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma in leading roles. Additionally, Mehta is developing the ambitious biographical series Gandhi, centred on the life of Mahatma Gandhi, with Pratik Gandhi portraying the iconic political figure.
'Porbandar’ in development
On the film front, the filmmaker is also working on a new project titled ‘Porbandar’. While it remains unclear whether the film will have a theatrical or OTT release, reports suggest production could begin in the second half of 2026.
