From supplying smart helmets and other latest safety equipment to strengthening medical facilities, a slew of suggestions for improving safety in coal mines poured in from the representatives of various trade unions operating in the Singareni coal fields at the 49th Safety Tripartite Review Meeting held at Mancherial on Sunday (August 31).

The meeting was chaired by the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram.

It was attended by Director General of Mines Safety (DGMS) Ujjwal Tah, DGMS Deputy Director-General T.R. Kannan, SCCL officials and representatives of the AITUC-affiliated Singareni Collieries Workers Union (SCWU), the recognized union of the State-owned SCCL, and various other trade unions, SCCL sources said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Balram has said that suggestions made by the trade unions would be duly considered and necessary measures will be taken immediately to enhance safety in the coal mines.

He said: “The SCCL has already set an example in coal production, and it is equally the responsibility of all to shape SCCL into an accident-free company.”

He also assured that all facilities would be extended to women employees in the coal mines and that the company would take responsibility for their safety.

The DGMS officials offered several safety-suggestions during the interactive session with the trade union leaders and others.
