SCERT, BEPC conclude state-level workshop to strengthen project-based learning

Patna: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and the Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC), in collaboration with Mantra4Change, on Tuesday, concluded a 2-day state-level quarterly leadership enhancement workshop aimed at strengthening the implementation of project-based learning (PBL) across all 38 districts of Bihar. The workshop, held on Jan 19 and 20 at Hotel Patliputra Nirvana, served as a platform to review evidence-based progress in Mathematics and Science subjects under the PBL and Micro Improvement Project (MIP) frameworks. The primary focus of the summit was to evaluate district-level performance and facilitate the exchange of "best practices". During a panel discussion, representatives from Muzaffarpur, Kishanganj, Banka, Sitamarhi, and West Champaran detailed their success stories.

These districts attributed their progress to consistent review meetings, digital connectivity with block-level technical teams via Zoom, and providing hands-on academic support to local schools. The sessions also addressed critical technical hurdles, specifically those involving the DIKSHA platform, while brainstorming solutions to enhance the District Empowerment Programme’s overall efficiency.

Addressing the participants, Snehasis Das, head of department of School Education at SCERT, emphasised the transformative nature of the initiative. "Project-based learning is a powerful platform for teacher innovation and an essential bridge for students to connect academic concepts with real-world applications," Das said. He added that the programme is designed to naturally cultivate critical thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving abilities in students. As part of the state’s long-term educational roadmap, officials discussed the upcoming ‘Endline 2025–26’ assessment to measure the programme's academic impact. The workshop concluded with an awards ceremony recognising high-performing districts for their dedication to educational excellence. To further showcase these grassroots innovations, the state announced that a State-Level PBL Fair is scheduled for Feb 26, where the most impactful projects and teaching methodologies will be displayed on a central stage.
