Akhtar's remarks came after exit poll projections suggested a tightly contested verdict, with a strong showing by the BJP and a resilient challenge from the TMC.

Member Secretary of Bangladesh’s NCP, Akhtar Hossain said that a victory for the BJP in West Bengal could trigger deportations of illegal Bangladeshi into Dhaka.
A Bangladeshi leader has warned about a possible refugee crisis in Dhaka, saying that millions of illegal immigrants could be pushed into the country if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in West Bengal, as projected by Exit Polls.
While speaking in the Bangladeshi Parliament, Member Secretary of Bangladesh’s NCP, Akhtar Hossain said that a victory for the BJP in West Bengal could trigger deportations of illegal Bangladeshi into Dhaka.
“If the exit polls in West Bengal show the BJP winning, and if the BJP forms the government there, they will push all the Bangladeshis into Bangladesh. This will create a major refugee crisis for us. We are worried about this," Hossain said.
He further alleged that such a move could lead to a “sea of migrants" entering Bangladesh, adding that there was no guarantee that Muslim migrants would not be sent back from India.
“We are regionally placed with many realities. BJP may ensure that a sea of migrants reach Bangladesh. There is no guarantee that Muslims (illegal immigrants) won’t be sent back from our neighbouring country. We have to remain one," he said.
Nishikant Dubey Reacts
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey launched a sharp attack on TMC on illegal infiltration, stressing that the party’s “helpers are slowly coming down to the fore."
In a post on ‘X’, the BJP MP shared the video of Akhtar who said that if the BJP government comes to power in West Bengal, it would stop the illegal infiltration and curb Bangladeshi Muslims from the state.
“Bangladesh MP Akhtar Hussain said today in the Bangladesh Parliament that the BJP’s victory in West Bengal will stop infiltration and drive out Bangladeshi Muslims; this is dangerous. The helpers of the Trinamool Congress are slowly coming to the fore," Dubey said in a post on X.

What Exit Polls Say?
Akhtar’s remarks came after exit poll projections suggested a tightly contested verdict, with a strong showing by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a resilient challenge from the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
According to projections released exclusively by VoteVibe for CNN-News18, the BJP is projected to win between 88 and 98 of the 152 seats in this phase, with a midpoint of 93, while the TMC+ alliance is expected to secure 51 to 61 seats (midpoint 56). The Congress is likely to remain marginal with 2 to 4 seats.
Public opinion firm Today’s Chanakya also pointed to a possible shake-up in West Bengal politics, putting the BJP well ahead with a projection of 192+ seats in the 294-member Assembly. The Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) is pegged at around 100 seats, while other parties appear marginal with just a couple of seats.
Illegal infiltration was among the most heated issues during the campaigning of West Bengal elections, with the ruling TMC alleging Centre’s ‘inaction’ over the issue in the state, meanwhile, the BJP has been constantly accusing CM Mamata Banerjee of supporting Bangladeshi immigrants in the country for the sake of her vote bank.
