The Railway police have launched a search to trace a youth who allegedly committed a major security breach at the Ernakulam Town (North) railway station by riding a motorbike on a platform. The alleged incident took place around 4.30 a.m. on Tuesday (September 2, 2025), the police said.

The youth reportedly rode a premium bike onto the second platform of the station and sped past the passengers. He rode the bike towards south and passed the trolley path at the end of the platform. He fled the scene after abandoning the bike under the Ernakulam north overbridge, evading the police who tried to stop him. He has since been absconding, the police said.

The bike was rented from Thykoodam by a 36-year-old from Mudikkal in Perumbavoor. The police suspect that the same person is the one who trespassed into the railway station riding the bike. “A police team searched his house based on the address provided in the documents submitted to the bike-renting firm. He was not home, though. A police squad has launched an intensive search for him,” a railway police officer said. The suspect is reportedly a history-sheeter with NDPS cases registered against him.

The suspect has been charged under Sections 153 (endangering the safety of railway passengers or obstruct railway operations) and 150 (1) (e) (damage to or destruction of certain railway properties) of the Railway Act as well as relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the police said.

An RPF officer said that the police personnel on guard at the North station had been instructed to be more alert to prevent such incidents. The force has also proposed installing a grill at the entrance to the second platform, an officer said.
