Vellore International School (VIS), in association with The Hindu, launched the second edition of Chennai’s biggest Under-15 Inter-School Football Tournament at the VIS campus in Kayar on Friday.

Following the resounding success of the inaugural tournament last year, the event has expanded its reach this time, involving schools not only from Chennai, but also from Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Chengalpattu, and Puducherry. With 64 schools in the fray, the tournament offers a platform for budding footballers to showcase their sporting spirit and skill.

The tournament was inaugurated by N.A. Haris, vice-president, All India Football Federation, and President, Karnataka State Football Association.

V. Sanjeevi, Director, VIS; K. Prabhakaran, Principal, VIS; Rohit Ramesh, Director, The Hindu Group; and L. V. Navaneeth, CEO, The Hindu Group, were also present.

Mr. Ramesh urged Mr. Haris to set up more training camps and organise more matches in VIS, Chennai, emphasising the importance of developing football at the grassroots level.

Mr. Haris said, “Football keeps one both mentally and physically fit. If you aspire to be a sportsperson, you need to engage in all kinds of games. Beyond winning, building values and giving back to the country are essential.”

Mr. Prabhakaran expressed optimism about the growing scale of the tournament. Cash prizes of ₹1,00,000, ₹75,000, and ₹50,000 awaiting the winners, runners-up, and second runners-up respectively.
