Second-year BA student, security guard die by suicide at separate places in Patna

Patna: A second-year BA student and a security guard died by suicide at separate places in Gardanibagh and Barh police station areas of Patna on Wednesday.In the first case, 19-year-old Medha Kumari, a second-year BA student, was found hanging in her room at Langarpur village under the Barh police station.

Medha, who was studying in Bhagalpur, had been living in a rented house in Barh with her mother for the last one year.According to police, her mother went to another room around 3.30 am after Medha fell asleep. She later found her daughter hanging from the ceiling fan early in the morning.A Dial-112 police team arrived at the spot after being alerted, but no suicide note was found on the spot. “We have seized Medha’s phone and are analyzing her call records to identify possible triggers.

The body has been sent to Barh sub-divisional hospital for postmortem,” said SHO Braj Kishore Singh.Locals revealed that Medha had faced several personal tragedies. Her father passed away eight years ago, one brother has been missing for the past three years, with a complaint filed in Bhagalpur, and another brother is working in Odisha.In another incident, 50-year-old Ganesh Prasad, a security guard from Fatuha, was found hanging in the basement of a three-storey building in New Alkapuri under the Gardanibagh police station.

His family resides nearby in the Alkapuri locality.City SP (central) Diksha said that while the case appears to be a suicide, Ganesh’s family suspects a foul play. “The body has been sent for postmortem, and we are scanning CCTV footage from the area. The exact cause of death will be confirmed by the autopsy. If it is confirmed as suicide, we will investigate the circumstances that led to it,” she said.
