The Thiruvananthapuram City Police have announced elaborate traffic restrictions and security measures planned for the conclusion of the State government’s Onam week celebrations on Tuesday.
According to District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram City) Thomson Jose, the city has been divided into 6 clusters, 8 divisions and 16 sectors for effective surveillance and maintenance of law and order. Over 1,600 police personnel will be deployed to various locations under the supervision of three Deputy Commissioners of Police.
Traffic regulations will be implemented from Kowdiar to East Fort from 2 p.m. on account of the cultural procession that will feature numerous floats and over a thousand artists.
Parking will be prohibited along the route of the procession that will pass through areas including Kowdiar, Vellayambalam, Museum, LMS, Statue, Overbridge, Pazhavangadi, East Fort, West Fort, Vettimurichakotta, Mitranandapuram, Enchakkal and Kallumoodu. Besides, pay-and-park facilities will not be available on city roads on the day. Traffic diversions will also be in effect during the course of the pageantry.
The following areas have been designated as parking zones: Senate Hall compound of Kerala University, University College, Sanskrit College, Kerala Water Authority compound, Jimmy George Indoor Stadium parking, Salvation Army School at Kowdiar, St. Joseph’s School ground, Government College for Women, Fort High School, Sree Swathi Thirunal Government College of Music, Government Central High School at Attakulangara, Manjalikulam ground, Attukal Temple ground, Government Homeopathic Medical College ground at Iranimuttam, the Corporation multi-level parking facilities at Thampanoor, Palayam and Corporation Office; and Thampanoor KSRTC and Railway Station parking areas.
