With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching, the state government has strengthened the security cover of six political leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Independent MP Pappu Yadav.

Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary’s protection has been upgraded from Z to Z-Plus category. In addition, he will receive an Advanced Security Liaison (ASL), a high-level arrangement involving advance teams, scheduled security briefings, and thorough threat assessments for every venue he is expected to visit.

Tejashwi Yadav, who earlier enjoyed Y-Plus category security, has been moved up to the Z category. Meanwhile, Purnia MP Pappu Yadav will now be accorded Y-Plus protection.

Security has also been increased for JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar, BJP MP Gyanendra Singh Gyanu, and BJP MP Pradeep Kumar Singh.

Officials described the decision as a precautionary measure in view of rising crime in the state ahead of the polls. In July 2025 alone, Bihar witnessed four shooting incidents within 24 hours, claiming the lives of a lawyer, a businessman, a grocery store owner, and a veterinary doctor.

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Bihar recorded more than 71,000 murder cases between 2001 and 2022. The latest available figures, from 2022, show that the state reported 2,930 murders that year alone.
