The city police and the district administration have been urged to provide security to the statue of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and other prominent personalities adorning the city landscape.
This followed an unidentified miscreant mounting on the statue of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar at K.R. Circle on Friday. A video, which has since gone viral on social media, showed the miscreant climbing on the pedestal, standing on the shoulder of the king and eventually sitting on the head.
After a few minutes, he descended from the statue even as locals tried to contact the police. It is pertinent to note that the district administration has plans to celerbate the birth anniversary of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar on June 4, in a meaningful manner. This is not the first time that the statues of the Maharajas have been vandalised or subjected to disrespect. Earlier, the sword adorning the statue of Chamaraja Wadiyar opposite the palace was found broken and had to be replaced.
Incidentally, the Mysuru City Corporation officials had recently paid a visit to the K.R. Circle, and the Commissioner had issued directives for taking up a few minor civic works as part of maintenance. Locals now urge better security for statues and landmark monuments to safeguard heritage.
