A Senate member of the University of Calicut has urged the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) to revoke an order slapping a hefty fine on teachers in affiliated colleges for the delays in registering students for examinations, and also for the clerical mistakes during the process.

Abida Farooqui, the Senate member, said in a letter to the V-C that as per an order issued in 2018, the teachers would have to pay up to ₹10,000 if there was any delay in registering the students in their departments for examinations. Through another order in 2022, the university also brought mistakes during the registration process within the ambit of the 2018 order. Ms. Farooqui claimed that many teachers had raised their concerns about this, calling it a demoralising move. She said it was objectionable to impose a penalty on teachers for clerical errors. Ms. Farooqui also pointed out that many gross mistakes on the part of the Pareeksha Bhavan staff, such as missing answer scripts, were going unpunished.
