A 76-year-old man was found dead in a drain near the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Sunday (August 17). The victim was identified as K.V. Kannan, a native of Vadakara.
The man, temporarily settled at Kalandithazham in Kozhikode city along with his family, reportedly fell into the drain during his morning walk. The body was shifted to the MCH for post-mortem.
Some residents alleged that the man was electrocuted after falling into the drain. They claimed that there were instances of many people experiencing electric shock after coming in contact with the overflowing stormwater in the area.
Police sources said the cause of the death could be ascertained only after a post-mortem. They added that the KSEB authorities had been asked to conduct a detailed safety check in the area following complaints from the public.
Meanwhile, KSEB sources said they were unaware of any such complaints. A special team had already inspected the spot, they added.
