Senior Congress leader Balanarayanan passes away

K. Balanarayanan, senior Congress leader and former district chairman of the United Democratic Front (UDF), passed away at a private hospital at Perambra in Kozhikode district on Sunday (May 31, 2026). He was 74.

He hails from Kadiyangad in Perambra and was an executive committee member of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. He entered political life through the Kerala Students Union (KSU), the students’ wing of the Congress party and had been the district president of the KSU and the Youth Congress. He also unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections from the Vadakara constituency in 2001. The final rites were held on his residential premises on Sunday evening.

He is survived by his wife Hemalatha and daughter Sindhu.
