Senior Maoist leader and Telangana State Committee member Bandi Prakash alias Prabhat, is set to surrender before Telangana Director General of Police, B. Shivadhar Reddy, on Tuesday (October 28, 2025), senior officials confirmed.
A native of Mandamarri in Mancherial district, Prakash has been associated with activism for over four decades. His activism began during the “Go to the Villages” campaign between 1982 and 1984, when he worked with the Revolutionary Students’ Union. He later became the president of the Singareni Workers’ Union, affiliated with the Maoist organisation, and went on to play a key role as an organiser in the National Park area.
Prakash has reportedly dedicated nearly 45 years to the CPI (Maoist), serving in various capacities.

His surrender follows Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s recent appeal to Maoists to lay down arms and join the mainstream during Police Martyrs’ Day.
The development also comes close on the heels of the surrender of three senior CPI (Maoist) leaders, Kunkati Venkataiah alias Vikas, Mogilicherla Venkatraju alias Chandu, and Thodem Ganga alias Sony, who recently gave themselves up to Telangana Police after spending decades underground.
Earlier this year, civil rights groups had raised concern over Prakash’s safety, following reports that Prakash and other Maoist leaders were detained by the Chhattisgarh Police.
In a statement issued on June 6, 2025, the Telangana Civil Rights Association urged that those in custody be produced before court without harm, alleging the risk of extrajudicial killings in the guise of encounters. The association had also called for transparency and renewed peace talks with the Maoist leadership.
