Indian men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir on Sunday, September 7 extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Indian men’s hockey team, who thrashed defending champions South Korea 4-1 to win the Asia Cup for a fourth time, at Rajgir.

With four Asia Cup titles, India are now the second-most successful side in the tournament, just behind five-time champions Korea.

India’s last Asia Cup win came in 2017 in Dhaka, adding to their earlier victories in 2003 (Kuala Lumpur) and 2007 (Chennai).

“Well done, boys! Sensational! #Hockey #AsiaCup," Gambhir tweeted on Sunday night.

As the hockey team’s Asia Cup journey comes to an end, the cricket team will start their campaign at the continental tournament against hosts UAE on September 10.

“Congratulations, Indian Hockey Team, on their 4-1 victory over South Korea to lift the #AsiaCup 2025 at Rajgir Hockey Stadium, Bihar," former chief minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, tweeted.

The victory over Korea guarantees India a direct spot in next year’s FIH World Cup, all set to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 14 to 30.

Dilpreet (28th, 45th minutes) and Sukhjeet Singh (1st) scored fine field goals while Amit Rohidas (50th) converted a penalty corner in front of a packed stadium at the Rajgir Sports Complex.

Korea’s lone goal was scored by Dain Son in the 51st minute.
