Seven special teams to inspect city drains

Patna: District magistrate (DM), Thiyagarajan S M, on Friday constituted seven special teams to inspect the condition of nine major drains and all minor drainage channels across the city.

The teams have been formed to ensure functional water drainage systems to prevent waterlogging.The teams will operate across six circles of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the municipal councils of Phulwarisharif, Danapur Nizamat, and Khagaul, covering Serpentine area, Mandiri, Rajeev Nagar (Kurji), Bakarganj, Saidpur, Anandpuri, Yogipur, Bypass (KBC), and Bypass (NCC) drains. Senior executive magistrates and engineers will evaluate the status of desilting and identify any encroachments.According to the directive, the teams will evaluate the flow of both underground and open drains and check the operational status of all 56 permanent and 35 temporary drainage pumping stations, managed by Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (Buidco).The DM instructed sub-divisional officers in Patna Sadar, Patna City, and Danapur to remove encroachments. The administration has released several helpline numbers for the monsoon period.

The Buidco also launched ‘mission project completion’ for stormwater drainage projects in Bihar. As many as six teams will conduct inspections every week. All teams will submit their reports to the headquarters which will be reviewed by Buidco MD Animesh Kumar Parashar.
