Severe rains force Jammu schools to remain shut tomorrow, exams postponed amid flood havoc

Torrential rains have brought normal life in Jammu to a standstill, prompting authorities to order the closure of all government and private schools in the division until August 27, according to an official notice.

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) also postponed all Class 10 and 11 examinations scheduled for Wednesday, citing extreme weather conditions and the safety of students.The persistent downpour has forced authorities to temporarily suspend the ongoing recruitment drive for constable posts across multiple security agencies. Officials clarified that the recruitment process will resume only once weather conditions improve, prioritizing the safety of both candidates and administrative staff.

Widespread flooding and damage

Jammu’s urban and rural areas have been severely affected, with nearly all water bodies exceeding the danger mark. Numerous low-lying neighborhoods and arterial roads remain submerged, causing major disruptions in transport and daily life. Over two dozen houses and bridges suffered structural damage, and three people lost their lives in rain-related incidents, underscoring the intensity of the flooding.
