Tiny Pomeranian Dies Saving Satna Family From Thieves
BHOPAL: Eight-year-old Sweetu may have been a tiny Pomeranian, but for her family in Satna’s Prem Vihar locality, she died a hero.In the dead of Friday night, when a group of thieves allegedly tried to break into the house of Nitin Yadav in the City Kotwali area, it was the little pet dog who first sensed danger. She barked relentlessly, trying to alert the family sleeping inside. By the time the intruders fled, they failed to steal anything but Sweetu was found dead the next morning. For the grieving family, the loss feels far greater than that of a pet.“We used to call her Sweetu. She was 8 years old. Even after being such a small homely breed, she laid down her life for us,” said 46-year-old Nitin Yadav, struggling to hold back tears while recounting the incident.According to Yadav, Sweetu had multiple injury marks on her body. “There were injuries on her leg, waist and neck. There were also strangulation marks. But the thieves could not succeed in executing the theft,” he said.Yadav believes there were at least three to four intruders. “Had they entered the house, they could have harmed us too. I live here with my wife and small daughter,” he said. The incident took place sometime after 12.12 am. Yadav said CCTV cameras installed at the rear side of the house were not working for the last few days.
Footage from the front cameras showed Sweetu till around 12.12 am before she appeared to rush towards the rear side after hearing suspicious noises.“She barked for some time, but probably soon she was overpowered,” he said softly. The family remained unaware of the attack during the night. It was only in the morning that Yadav realised something was wrong.“Normally she would wait for us outside the gate every morning. When I could not find her, I went searching and saw she was no more,” he said. Then came the sentence that left even police personnel at the spot emotional.“For me, the biggest regret is that Sweetu must have been thinking I would come to save her … but I was not there when she needed me the most.”
