Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday called on SCO member states to honour bilateral agreements, including water-sharing treaties, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.

The remarks come as India held the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan in abeyance following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.

“We expect SCO member countries to follow all bilateral treaties. Uninterrupted access to due share of water as per existing treaties among SCO members," Sharif said.

While India’s move is part of its ongoing response to cross-border terrorism, the Pakistani Prime Minister’s remark reflected Islamabad’s pain due to the suspension of the Indus Treaty.

PM Modi’s Message Against Terrorism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the plenary session of the SCO Summit in Tianjin, noted that terrorism and separatism remain among the most serious threats to global peace.

Calling terrorism a “shared challenge for all of humanity," he said the menace is not limited to India but continues to endanger the entire world.

PM Modi named groups like Al Qaeda while stressing the urgent need for stronger collective action against radicalisation and terror financing.

Referring to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, PM Modi used the SCO Summit platform to issue a strong message against nations that openly back terrorism.

SCO member states collectively condemned the Pahalgam attack, expressing condolences to the victims’ families and urging that perpetrators and sponsors of such acts be brought to justice.
