Shivamogga court convicts a person under POCSO

A Shivamogga court, on Saturday, convicted a person accused of sexually harassing a minor girl and sentenced him to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and a slapped a penalty of ₹75,000.

The convicted sexually harassed a 17-year-old girl in Tirthahalli taluk in 2022. The police registered the case under the POCSO Act. Malur Circle Inspector Praveen Nellammanavar conducted the investigation and filed the chargesheet.

Ningangoud Patil, the Additional District and Sessions judge, FTSC-1, in Shivamogga pronounced the judgement convicting the accused. The judge also ordered for a compensation of ₹4 lakh to the survivor. H.R. Sridhar represented the prosecution.
