Patna: Panic briefly gripped the Musallahpur locality of Patna on Thursday evening after smoke was seen billowing from the coaching institute run by Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir. Smoke was seen emanating from the ground floor of the building, prompting students and staff to rush out of the premises. However, fire services officials later clarified that no fire had broken out. They said the incident was caused by an electrical short circuit and that the smoke seen inside the building was largely due to the discharge of fire extinguishers used as a precautionary measure. As smoke spread through parts of the premises, students and staff evacuated the building, triggering brief chaos. The situation was brought under control quickly due to the prompt response of the institute’s management and fire personnel.
Fire officials said a short circuit in the wiring was suspected to have caused the incident and an inquiry is underway.Immediately after noticing the spark, security personnel and staff members acted swiftly and used fire extinguishers available at the institute to prevent the situation from escalating.Following information about the incident, personnel from Kadamkuan police station and a fire brigade team rushed to the spot.
By the time they arrived, the staff had already contained the situation and prevented the electrical fault from developing into a fire. Fire personnel subsequently inspected the premises to ensure there was no remaining risk.As a precaution, power supply to the affected area was temporarily disconnected. Officials of the power department were informed and a technical team was sent to the site. After repairing the damaged section of the electrical circuit and carrying out safety checks, power supply was restored and normalcy returned.District fire officer Ritesh Kumar Pandey said, “It was just a short circuit between two joints in the wire. The smoke was due to the fire extinguisher.”Notably, the fire safety department’s audit team had inspected Khan Global Studies and a related hospital on June 7 and June 23. During those inspections, officials detected several serious shortcomings in fire safety measures at both establishments. The management was subsequently given seven to 10 days to address the deficiencies and comply with safety norms.
