Shots fired in Ferozepur market: Three attackers caught with bullet injuries; main accused still on the run

BATHINDA: Three people seen firing in broad daylight at Ferozepur on Thursday were arrested after an encounter with the police. The three, with bullet injuries on their legs, were admitted to Ferozepur civil hospital.

The police recovered four pistols from the three, identified as Gurjinder, Amarjit, and Sonu. The three were witnessed firing shots from the pistols, with Gurjinder having weapons in both of his hands and firing from both weapons.Interestingly, they went to attack another person but ended up losing their own accomplice, identified as Ashu Monga, who was killed in the shootout on Thursday.Ferozepur DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill and Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said that, as per initial investigations, it came to the fore that the deceased, Ashu Monga, had a tiff with one Yuvraj Yuvi, who used derogatory words about Ashu's wife. Unable to tolerate it, Ashu Monga approached his friends Gurjinder, Amarjit, and Sonu, who accompanied him to the Makhu Gate area where Yuvi was in a tattoo shop. They went inside the shop, where before Ashu Monga could cause harm to Yuvi, Yuvi pulled his weapon and fired at Ashu, who died on the spot inside the shop. The SSP said that the three accomplices of Ashu came out and fired towards the tattoo shop, from where Yuvi also fired some shots and somehow succeeded in escaping.

However, the three were seen firing multiple shots and escaped on a bike. The SSP further said that the police on Friday night got a tip-off that the three were travelling near Ratta Khera village, and a naka was laid near a drain at Ratta Khera village with support from counterintelligence. Three people coming on a motorbike were signalled to stop, but they fired at the police party, which the police retaliated. One of the three sustained two bullet injuries, while the two others sustained one bullet injury each in the brief encounter and were taken to the civil hospital, Ferozepur. The SSP said that apart from these three, the police brought one Amrik Singh on production warrants from Faridkot jail and arrested two others identified as Joginder Singh and Angrej Singh, who are accomplices of Yuvi, who is on the run.Cross cases have been registered against both groups, with a case under murder charges against Yuvi and attempt to murder charges, apart from the arms act, against Amarjit, Gurjinder, and Sonu.
