Bananas are promoted as a breakfast food as they help alleviate diarrhoea and constipation and help introduce electrolytes and nutrients to the body.
But some complain of bloating after eating the affordable and tasty fruit.Bloating is a condition in which one feels discomfort in the stomach and pressure in the abdomen due to the build-up of slow-moving gas in the intestine.Bananas contain sorbitol, a natural sugar alcohol which the body metabolizes slowly and thus can lead to laxative effects when eaten in large amounts. The fruit is also rich in soluble fibre, a type of carbohydrate that dissolves in water and results in heightened gas production.
Both these products are broken down in the intestine to produce hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane gas which cause the feeling of bloating.
Thus, while bananas in general are not a common cause of bloating, eating them in large amounts could lead to the feeling.
5 food combos that can cause bloating
There are some food combos that should not be paired with each other as they can lead to bloating. Here are the most common ones:
Banana and milk

Many health-conscious peeps have hopped on to the trend of breakfast smoothies that make you feel full for a long period of time.
Milk and banana smoothies are thus a common choice. However, the combination of the two is very heavy and takes time to digest, thus leading to bloating. In order to avoid it, try adding a pinch of cinnamon to your banana milkshake.
Fruits with meals

People like pairing their meals with a side of their favourite fruit to make a wholesome and healthy meal. While eaten alone, fruits get digested quickly, when paired with heavier foods, their digestion process slows down which can lead to them getting fermented in the stomach and causing bloating.
Beans and cheese

When you pair beans with cheese or any dairy product, it leads to bloating. This is because beans are rich in fermentable fibers while cheese adds fat and lactose. Together they slow digestion and increase gas production.
Pasta and meat

Not only pasta and meat, you should never pair starch-based foods with protein-based ones. While starch-based foods require an alkaline environment for digestion, protein-based foods need an acidic environment. They conflict within the stomach, leading to a delay in digestion and an increase in flatulence.
Yogurt and fruit

This is definitely the most surprising food combo that causes bloating. Many prefer pairing their fruits with yogurt but the natural sugar in fruits and the bacteria in yogurt lead to sinus congestion and bloating in the stomach.
