Haryana Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam expressed dissatisfaction over inadequate facilities at the Khelo India centre in Panchkula, issuing show-cause notices to 15 officials.

Haryana Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam on Thursday expressed strong dissatisfaction over inadequate facilities at the Khelo India centre located at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula. The minister took swift action, issuing show-cause notices to 15 officials following a surprise inspection.

Surprise Visit Reveals Serious Shortcomings

During his unannounced visit, Gautam interacted with athletes from disciplines including boxing, badminton, and athletics. He inspected the hostel accommodations, checked the food arrangements in the mess, and reviewed the gym and training equipment.

The athletes raised several concerns directly with the minister, highlighting issues such as substandard food, lack of essential sports equipment, and poor living conditions.

Officials Held Accountable

In response, Gautam immediately issued show-cause notices to 15 individuals, including coaches, support staff, and the District Sports Officer of Panchkula. He summoned the officials on the spot and issued a stern warning: fix the issues within 15 days or face strict disciplinary action.

Athletes Blame Implementation, Not Policy

The athletes acknowledged that Haryana’s sports policy is progressive and well-structured, but blamed poor implementation at the grassroots level for their current struggles. They urged the minister to ensure that the system works as intended.

Minister Promises Reform

Gautam stressed the importance of providing athletes with nutritious food, quality equipment, and proper facilities to help them compete at their best.

“Athletes must be given the right resources to perform at the highest level," he said. “Coaches who are committed and deliver results will be encouraged, but those who are negligent will face action."
