SHRC registers case over serving of expired soft drink in Vande Bharat

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has registered a suo motu case after passengers on the Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express (Train no. 20631) were allegedly served expired soft drinks on Thursday morning.

The Commission has directed the Palakkad Division Railway Manager to investigate the matter and file a report within 15 days. The case will be reviewed at a sitting scheduled for June 26 at the Government Guest House in Kozhikode.

The complaint surfaced after a soft drink manufactured on September 25, 2024 and expired on March 24, 2025, was reportedly served to passengers. The issue came to light following media reports, with passengers alleging that catering staff dismissed their concerns.

The Commission acted based on these reports, raising concerns over passengers safely and negligence in food quality monitoring on premium train services.
