Stating that the withdrawal of criminal cases related to Hubballi riots in 2022 was not the first instance of the Karnataka High Court pulling up the Congress government in the State, the Opposition BJP on Friday claimed that the Siddaramaiah-led government had created a record in attracting the wrath of the High Court.

In a post on social media platform X, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok termed the court’s strong observations against the government’s decision to withdraw criminal cases concerning the Hubballi riots as “cracking of whip against appeasement politics”.

Recalling earlier instances when the Congress government’s decisions had come under the court’s scanner, he said the court had pulled up the government for handing over the veterinary hospital’s land at Chamarajpet in Bengaluru to the Minorities Welfare Department.

Similarly, the government had also been pulled up over illegal detention of BJP MLC C.T. Ravi, corruption in the BDA, for filing cases against ED officials over alleged siphoning of funds of the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation Ltd., and so on, he said. In fact, the Siddaramaiah-led government had suffered an embarrassment even when it had challenged the permission for prosecution granted by the Governor with respect to the MUDA issue, he maintained.
