The management of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has decided to deploy women operators in its opencast mines by allowing the women general assistants and women ‘badli’ workers to apply for the posts of operators.
‘Badli’ workers are those who are engaged by the company in place of regular workers on their temporary absence from duties. Of the 40 mines operated by Singareni now, 18 are opencast mines and the rest underground ones.
Following the instructions of Chairman and Managing Director N. Balaram, the authorities have invited applications from the women general assistants and badli workers to work as operators in the opencast mines. On selection, they would be trained as the operators of heavy machinery in opencast mines.
The initiative is part of empowering women in the mining sector, promoting equal opportunities and ensuring efficient utilisation of available human resources. Accordingly, the Singareni management issued a circular on Saturday (September 13) to all mines and departments to receive applications from the women workers interested to work as operators of heavy machinery in the opencast mines.
Women candidates, who are currently working as general assistants and badli workers, below 35 years of age and those who have passed at least 7th Class, could apply for the Operator post. They are required to be physically fit and must possess a two-wheeler or four-wheeler driving licence. Preference will be given to those who obtained their driving licence before August 2024.
The candidates selected after scrutiny of applications for the required qualifications would undergo training at the Telangana Institute of Driving Education and Skills at Sircilla in the Heavy Goods Vehicle and Heavy Motor Vehicle divisions. After completing the training, those who pass the selection test would be appointed to the respective areas with the designation of EP Operator Trainee Category-5, based on vacancy availability.
