Singer Jeong Dong's underage driving case: Singer takes 'responsibility' in the matter

Singer Jeong Dong Won has admitted his responsibility as the claims of his driving without a license as a minor surfaced. His agency issued an official statement accepting the allegations after a news portal reported that he was being referred to prosecutors in an underage driving case.

Jeong Dong Won accepts full responsibility

As per reports from News1, the singer had been referred to prosecutors for a case regarding an incident that happened in 2023. The star, who is now 18, was under investigation for driving a vehicle around the province area in 2023, at the time when he was a minor (16). On September 11, his company stated the matter, sharing that the incident was in fact true. They shared that, “Jeong practiced driving for about 10 minutes near his family home in Hadong, accompanied by a passenger who recorded it”.

They also added in the statement that the idol expresses deep regret over the matter and will be mindful of laws from now on.They further shared, the person who was in the vehicle with Dong Won took his phone, recorded him driving, and then even used the video proof of the incident online. This issue brought the incident back to light. Allegedly, the person, along with someone else, had tried to use the video as blackmail; however, Dong Won had refused and had later proceeded to file a complaint of his own against them.

He was asked by the blackmailers to pay a total of 200 million won, after which he went on and informed the correct authorities.

Since then, the authorities have caught everyone and have kept the two under investigation for extortion of money. The official statement ended with the idol’s agency saying, "Jeong Dong-won deeply regrets the mistake of taking the wheel out of curiosity and has no intention of avoiding responsibility.

We will strengthen management and education so he can grow into a mature and responsible member of society."
