A gang of six property offenders and a juvenile involved in a series of two-wheeler and mobile phone thefts across the city were nabbed by the Commissioner’s Task Force, South-East Zone.

The team also executed a conviction warrant and four long-pending non-bailable warrants.

The arrested offenders were identified as Mohammed Sajid, 35, Shaik Abdul Waseem, 28, Aslam Bin Barawas, 29, Mohd Shahzad, 21, Mohd Muqeed, 19, and Sohail Mohiuddin, 19, along with a juvenile.

Police said the group was responsible for at least six theft cases, and had been operating across multiple police station limits.

Officers recovered one stolen two-wheeler, ten stolen mobile phones, and a passenger auto used in the offences.

The total value of the recovered property is estimated at around ₹7 lakh. Investigators said that most of the accused are habitual offenders.

“Mohammed Sajid and three others reportedly formed a gang to steal mobile phones from passengers by diverting their attention while travelling in an auto. Meanwhile, Muqeed, Mohiuddin and the juvenile allegedly committed two-wheeler thefts under the limits of Chikkadpally and Saroornagar police stations,” said an officer from the Task Force.

He added that a conviction warrant was pending against Muqeed in a robbery case, while four non-bailable warrants were pending against the other accused for offences registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Indian Penal Code.
