A 24-year-old lecturer from Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district died by suicide, six months after her marriage. In a note she left behind, she blamed her husband and his family for harassment.

The woman, Srividya, had been working at a private college and married Rambabu, a village surveyor, half a year ago.

Just a month after the wedding, Rambabu reportedly began to regularly come home drunk, beat her, and inflict mental and physical torture, she wrote.

In her final note, Srividya wrote about the emotional and physical trauma she faced. She recounted how Rambabu humiliated her in front of another woman, calling her “worthless.” She described being physically assaulted — including having her head slammed against the bed and being punched in the back.

Addressing her brother in the letter, she wrote a final Raksha Bandhan message: “Hey brother, take care I may not be able to tie Rakhi for you this time.”

Srividya held her husband and his family responsible for her condition, and urged in her note that they "should not be spared under any circumstances."

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
