A four-year-old boy was allegedly bitten by a sniffer dog belonging to a security agency at the Kolkata airport, forcing his family to cancel an overseas trip, police said.
The incident took place between departure gates 4A and 4B, when the dog, a German Shepherd, suddenly lunged forward and bit the child despite being on a leash with its handler. The boy was accompanied by his parents, who were scheduled to travel to Malaysia.
The child’s father later lodged a complaint, based on which an FIR was registered against the handler for “incompetence in controlling the dog causing severe injury." According to the complaint, the family had to call off their trip as the boy was traumatised and required a full course of anti-rabies vaccination spanning nearly a month.
Police said they are investigating the case.
