In a recent chat with Hauterfly, Soha shared that before she and Kunal decided to move in together, her mother Sharmila Tagore gave her some practical advice. She pointed out that sometimes men might delay proposing after living together, as they may not feel the same urgency. Sharmila encouraged Soha to keep this in mind before taking the step into a live-in relationship.

Marriage wasn’t a priority

The actress also explained that while Kunal eventually proposed and they got married and it didn't stem from any sort of pressure.

For them, marriage wasn’t a priority—they were happy living together. However, they understood that family and others valued the formal step for reasons like stability, so they decided to get married to make them happy. She also clarified that it wasn’t about opposing marriage or wanting to stay unmarried, it was simply not a big concern for them at the time.

Advice that stood the test of time

In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Soha had talked about yet another wisdom that she received from her mother.

She had once told her that in a relationship, it’s important for women to be mindful of a man’s ego while men should take care of a woman’s emotions. Soha also admitted that while times have changed and people now acknowledge that both genders have emotions and egos, this advice has worked well for her.

She also reflected that long-term relationships can be tough, and having friends outside the relationship is important so that not all the emotional pressure falls on one partner.Meanwhile, Soha Ali Khan got engaged to Kunal Khemu in July 2014 in Paris and tied the knot in Mumbai on January 25, 2015. The couple welcomed their daughter, Inaaya Naumi Khemu in 2017.
