Some suburban trains cancelled in Chennai

CHENNAI: Southern Railway has announced changes to suburban train services between Chennai and Gummidipoondi on July 22 and 24 due to engineering work between Gummidipoondi and Kavaraipettai from 1.15pm to 5.15pm on both days.Several EMU services from Moore Market Complex and Chennai Beach towards Gummidipundi and Sullurupeta will be fully cancelled. These include trains departing between 10.15am and 3.45pm, with corresponding return services from Gummidipundi and Sullurupeta also cancelled in the afternoon.Two services will face partial cancellations: the 9.55am Chengalpet–Gummidipundi local will run only up to Minjur, and the 3pm Gummidipundi–Tambaram local will commence from Minjur instead of Gummidipundi.

Special trainsSpecial passenger trains will be operated from Moore Market Complex, Chennai Beach, Ponneri and Sullurupeta during the block hours. Services from Moore Market Complex and Chennai Beach to Ponneri will leave roughly every hour from 11.35am to 3.45pm. Return services from Ponneri to Moore Market Complex and Chennai Beach will operate from 12.05pm until 4.47pm, ensuring a basic connection during the block period.

A Sullurupeta–Gummidipundi special will also depart at 4.30pm to accommodate commuters from the outer suburbs. The temporary arrangements are intended to maintain connectivity while essential maintenance work is carried out to ensure safe train operations.
