The Bagalagunte police are on the lookout for a city-based man for killing his father for a share of the family property. The police have arrested the friend of the accused, identified as Praveen Reddy, for helping him in the crime and later stage it as a suicide.
The accused has been identified as Manoj, a class 10 dropout and unemployed. The victim has been identified as Manjunatha, a resident of Dasarahalli and a carpenter by profession.
The police said that Manoj is absconding, and efforts are on to track him down.
According to the police, Manjunatha was murdered at his house while his wife and younger son had gone out for a medical check-up. The crime came to light after the post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation.
Manoj, who is the elder son, informed his mother that Manjunath had ended his life. Following this, the wife and the younger son rushed back home and alerted the police. The police had registered a case of unnatural death.
According to the police, Manoj was eyeing the share of his family property, a residential building where two houses have been rented out. Reportedly, Manoj’s friends suggested that it’s more unlikely that his father would give him his share and suggested him to do something, police said.
The accused hatched a plan with his friend Praveen Reddy to eliminate his father to get his share of the property. The duo strangled Manjunath while he was alone at home and made it look like he ended his life, police said.
